4LIM U llitY Spirituality Gerontologist Talks At Temple Beth El Dr. Sanford M. Shapero, gerontologist, rabbi and administrator, will address the issues of aging during a weekend-long appearance at Temple Beth El. He will begin his visit Friday, Dec. 7, speaking at 7:30 p.m. Shabbat services on 'Aging Isn't for Sissies." He will then address congregants at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, presenting a "Gerontology Survival Check List." Dr. Shapero's visit will conclude with a 12:30 p.m. program Sunday, Dec. 9, when Dr. Shapero he will discuss "The Generational Tug of War: Balancing the Needs of the Elderly, Our Families and Ourselves." All three events are open to the community without charge. While serving from 1970-79 as regional director of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, Dr. Shapero founded the Institute for Creative Development at the University of Georgia, a national gerontology train- ing center. He later joined the City of Hope National Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was named in 1989 to a four-year term on the National Advisory Council of Aging of the National Institutes of Health.
