Weidman's favorite way to
spend an evening. But he
hasn't let his self-conscious-
ness, or the comments of others, go
to waste.
After eyeing the footwork and the
posturing of people on the dance
floor, the playwright created a theater
piece that unravels character through
choreography. Called Contact, it's a
three-part production mixing rhyth-
mic body language with popular
recordings and dialogue.
A collaboration with Tony Award-
winning director Susan Stroman,
Contact will be at the Fisher Theatre
Nov. 27-Dec. 23.
Weidman, 55, is no stranger to the
Fisher. As writer of the book for Big:
The Musical, he spent weeks in
Detroit during the show's pre-
Broadway run, again working with
Stroman.
Contact took off after Stroman was
asked to develop a new work for the
Mitzi Newhouse Theater at New
York's Lincoln Center. Inspired by
the sight of a woman in a yellow
dress dancing at a downtown New
York night spot, Stroman persuaded
