Being the superb chef that she is,
Mary is constantly on the lookout for
healthier ways to prepare her contem-
porary American cuisine ... from meat
to fish ... There is always a vegetarian
special on the daily menu.
Chefs at Diamond Jim Brady's
Bistro wear latex gloves when handling
food ... They are used just one time
before being discarded ... for ready-to-
eat food ... or foods that will not be
cooked further before being served.
On the wall is a plate with the menu
of a typical dinner eaten by the origi-
nal Diamond Jim Brady (James
Buchanan Brady) ... Three dozen oys-
ters sprinkled with clams ... one dozen
hard-shelled crabs ... a tureen of soup
... six broiled Maine lobsters ...
Delmonico salad ... prime sirloin
steak, smothered with chops ... green
beans almandine, broccoli, asparagus
with Hollandaise sauce, artichokes ...
and a platter of French pastry ... (plus,
no doubt, a pound or two of bon
bons.)
Feel like indulging in a dinner like
this? ... Give Mary time and she'll put
one out for you.
It is only in the past six years that
Diamond Jim Brady's has done cater-
ing ... With her "Let Mary Cook" per-
sonalized service, she brings the restau-
rant to people with meals to be picked
up, or delivered if ordered in quantity.
The restaurant is open seven days a
week ... Monday-Thursday, 11:30
a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday,
11:30 to 11; Sunday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
... Seating is for 110.
Diamond Jim Brady's Bistro, a Paris-
type themed restaurant... with numer-
ous artifacts of yesteryears from W.
Seven Mile Road ... lives on a wonder-
fill reputation, too ... Mary's.
ROSE GUTTMAN, a favorite tra-
ditional Jewish food cook and former
co-owner of Irving's Deli, will return
"home" when she joins the Hello Deli
team for its opening shortly after
Thanksgiving ... Rose had been at the
former Bagel Deli, Maple and
Farmington roads, present locale of
the new Hello Deli carry-out ... and
has left her present position to make
those yum-yum dishes for its owners
Steve Blum, Jeff Weiss and Greg
Nothdurft.
