"Great work
Gittleman"
IF YOU'VE DONE IT BEFORE, YOU KNOW
WHAT TO LOOK FOR.
That was certainly the case with Ingrid and Michael Day,
who had experience building previous homes prior to
selecting Gittleman Construction to provide roughly
1,800 square feet of addition and renovation space to
their 1960's Bloomfield Township residence.
"We have done a lot of building," Ingrid said. " We've
never had a process go as smoothly as our job with
Gittleman. They said we would be out and back within
six months and they were true to their word. It's now
been about two years, and we've had no problems.
"Gittleman really knew what they were doing and it
showed. I'd recommend them to anyone."

Beyond Glasswork
"Pauline has done so many other
things besides glass," says her daugh-
ter-in-law Judy Beckman of
Providence. "She has done painting
and sculpture and incredible needle-
work."
"Her stamp was on her house in
every possible way," Judy Beckman
says. "From the three-dimensional
glass flowers in the kitchen window to
the dining room rug she created to
her breathtaking needlepoint designs.
Beckman seems to have passed the
artistic gene to her family. "My grand-
daughters are very talented," she says
of Anna, 25, and Martha, 22, of New
York. Both are graduates of the Rhode
Island School of Design, as is their
father, Ralph Beckman, an architect.
"She's so amazing," Judy Beckman
says of her mother-in-law. "She is the
most lovely, creative, positive force in
the life of this family. Everyone is
inspired by her: She is a very, very
generous woman in many ways. Part
of the gift she gave to her family was
how she created their physical home."
Pauline Beckman added quilting to
her artistic repertoire when her grand-
children were small, making them
elaborate quilts they still cherish.
"They each reflect the passion of
the person for whom she makes
them," Judy Beckman says.
Pauline's husband, Irving, retired
from the advertising business, has an
avid interest in playwriting. His quilt
is made up of appliqued scenes from
the plays of Shakespeare. For her son
David, who passed away last
November, she made a wall-hanging
quilt representing his love of jazz,
with replicas of his favorite album
covers.
Although she has occasionally had
her quilts displayed in art exhibits,
Pauline Beckman says, "Nothing I do
is for sale. It is for me and the people
I love and for people who come into
my home."
Says Judy Beckman: "Her loving
gift is her art."
