When Sylvia Pearlman's memory
issues interfered with her safety and
ability to care for herself, she moved
into the. home of daughter Zina
Kramer.
"My sister, Anita Zicherman, and I
realized that there was nothing we
could do to return mother to her for-
mer lifestyle, but we could make her
new life as wonderful and meaningful
as possible," says Kramer. "This was-
n't going to be easy because we both
work and have busy, active lives.
"We solved our problem by
enrolling mother in the Brown Adult
Day Care Program and are very
pleased with the results. My mother
has an enriching day, socializing with
others, participating in activities rang-
ing from dancing to cooking, and
going on occasional field trips, such
as touring Comerica Park [in
Detroit]. The people professionals at
the Day Care Center are our caregiv-
ing partners."
The Dorothy & Peter Brown
Jewish Community Adult Day Care
Program is available in Southfield and
West Bloomfield. It helps older adults
with Alzheimer's and other memory
disorders to remain active, says Mindi
Silver-Weiss, associate director of
