The Institute for Retired
Professionals (IRP) offers opportu-
nities for semi-retired and retired
seniors to participate in intellectu-
ally-focused discussion groups and
programs at both JCC campuses.
IRP's 25 discussion groups are
peer-facilitated and meet either
semi-weekly or weekly. Topics
include finance, current events,
medical issues, film study, opera
and humanities. Lunch-and-learn
meetings are also held throughout
the year featuing guest speakers.
Meeting the needs of active sen-
iors is a major component of the
JCC's planning.
"As many of the baby boomers
reach retirement age, they remain
active and healthy and interested in
expanding their experiences as well
as taking up interests unavailable to
them previously," explains Leslee
Magidson, managing director of
JPM. "This is an important popu-
lation for us, especially as their
numbers increase. We recognize
their demands and respond. For
instance, we recently received a
grant from the state to build a
small computer lab specifically set
up for seniors." ❑
