At Hillel Day School, they are
Haley Gordon, Bloomfield Hills;
Emily Rosen, West Bloomfield;
Adena Kass, Huntington Woods; Sara
Anders, Farmington Hills; and Julia
Friedman, West Bloomfield.
Friedman, 12, says that after
Tapper spoke at her school, she
brought in two coats the next day.
"He said that we had a choice to
put on a coat, but some people did-
n't. That really effected me," she says.
"The kids have taken ownership
for this project. They really have a
sense of performing mitzvot," says
Alita Cyrlin, Hillel's dean of student
affairs.
The girls helped organize and
implement the clothing drive in the
Hillel community, encouraging
everybody in the school, not just
eighth graders, to bring in coats.
Students at the JAMD are
involved for the second year, says
Rabbi Lee Buckman, head of school.
His eighth-graders, along with Rabbi
Baruch Lazewnik, who teaches Bible
at the academy, joined forces with
Tapper.
"Our students have a good sense
of the rest of the world beyond the
academy and that everybody isn't as
fortunate as they are," says Rabbi
Buckman.
The JAMD family personally
understands the meaning of commu-
nity support, he says, "because our
school is the product of the support
everyone has given us."
Says JAMD student Sara Anders,
13: "We take swhat we have for grant-
ed. I've learned to be more respectful
of people who don't have as much as
us. It's important to be able to help,
even with something small like a hat
or scarf."
To donate coats and accessories,
call Tapper's: (248) 932-7700.

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit has teamed up
with the ZenaComp Inc. to provide
online class registration for members
and non-members who wish to take
classes at the JCC facilities.
Class registration can be accessed by
logging on to the JCC's Web site,
www.jccdet.org, and clicking on the
class registration button. Classes are
divided into categories depending on
location, type of class and age group,
with three different types of navigation
tools to move around the registration
system: keyword search engine, drop-
down category list and browsing the
catalogue.
An individual can register for multi-
ple classes and registrants can sign up
multiple family members for various
classes at one sitting.
