mies of the U.S.
"Eight years ago, the same diaboli-
cally evil people tried to bomb the
World Trade Center," he said. "They
killed six people, and as a nation we
shrugged our shoulders, moved for-
ward and did nothing.
"Now they've killed 6,000 and if
we stand here this evening and if we
do nothing, within a few years they'll
be able to kill millions."
If not halted, he believes terrorists
will gain increased ability to deliver
biological weaponry. "So we have no
choice but to go after them," he said.
The senator suggested that some
countries may give up support of ter-
rorism. He mentioned Iran, Syria and
Saudi Arabia. With reference to Iraq,
he said, "I guess in a year, we'll have
to go in and finish up the job we did-
n't do in 1991."
"I think everyone at the dinner
supported Sen. Schumer chastising
any position that exempts Palestinian
terrorists, such as Hamas and
Hezbollah, from the war against ter-
rorism," said Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld,
Yeshiva executive director.

Sen. Schumer said, "We should not
forget there is one country that will
benefit even more than us should we
succeed and wipe out world terror-
ism, and that is Israel." He suggested
Israeli leaders may have to tighten
their belts, tone down rhetoric and
maybe speak with those they don't
want to confront.

No Distinction

"We can't say there are two forms of
terrorism — the kind that Al Quaida
does and the kind Hamas and
Hezbollah does," Sen. Schumer said.
Sen. Schumer is circulating a bipar-
tisan letter on Capitol Hill.
Addressed to the State Department, it
says making a distinction between
terrorists is harmful to both the war
on terrorism and the United States.
To great applause, he said, "It is
our job as Americans and friends of
Israel to make sure to finish off Al
Quaida, and go after Hamas,
Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad with the
same venomous force.
"The only thing that can defeat us
is that we fail to persevere — to give
up — or start fighting among our-
selves, which is what [Osama] bin
Laden and his evil band wish."
