The loss of this noble giant leaves an unfillable void in the Jewish Community, and the Community of mankind. DEBORAH FREEDMAN, 82, of Ann Arbor, died Nov. 3. She was a Phi Beta Kappa grad- uate of the University of Michigan. After her children were in junior high, she returned to U-M for a master's degree and Ph.D. degree in eco- nomics with special emphasis on popula- Deborah tion problems in Freedman developing countries. She collected data for her dissertation with field work in Taiwan. Mrs. Freedman taught for many years in U-M's economics depart- ment and was a research associate of the Population Studies Center. She published 27 scientific papers in economic and demographic journals. She also served the university as a member of such committees as budget priorities, honors program and student-faculty policies. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Freedman; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Jeff Davidson His indomitable spirit will live in our hearts.
