and a cherished place to "respect the
Jewish holidays."
"I like to mix my colors in bright,
natural light," says Rosenstein, who
finds her inspiration in joyful experi-
ences, never depression or angst.
The artist, married to Jeffrey
Rosenstein, a professor of neuroscience
at George Washington University, has
had articles written about her designs
for her daughter, Madeleine, 5, and
her recommendations for children's
areas that can be altered as the chil-
dren grow up.
The interior designer garnered
attention for planning a playhouse
with an attached pergola for children,
to be used later by parents as a setting
for outdoor dining and entertaining.
Another commitment is to the place-
ment of artwork in children's rooms.
She refers clients to a variety of images
that could appeal to youngsters' inter-
ests in bright colors or simple designs.
She often recommends the interest-
ing palette of Rothko, outdoor scenes

by Van Gogh, intricate mazes by Escher
and playful mobiles by Calder; a wide
array of reproductions is available.
Rosenstein's work in the Ann Arbor
exhibit represents her efforts over the
past year, when she intensified her
commitment to painting. Her mother's
visits to the Ann Arbor gallery to have
some pieces framed led to the show.
"My painting has been a balance to
the design demands of my practice and
a joyful extension of my drawings with
my daughter," Rosenstein says.
