`Is that the dog
folks are supposed
to beware of?' 'Yep,
that's him,' he
replied. 'That cer-
tainly doesn't look
like a dangerous
dog to me. Why in
the world would
you put up that sign?'
`Because,' the owner said, 'before I
put it up, people kept tripping over
him.'
"So when you come over to visit,
please look around. I'm too small to
see."
WHILE WE WERE inside, thaw-
ing on the oodles of food, sirens
blared and tornado warnings were in
the air ... This might have kept the
crowd down a bit, but there were still
about 270 stalwarts at the glatt kosher
Chinese buffet by Jeffrey Rosenberg at
Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Sam Barnett on clarinet, and a key-
board gent from his band, played
Yiddish and show tunes for attendees.
Next date and theme haven't been
set yet in Jeffrey's regular series of glatt
kosher buffets ... He's had Italian, deli
and Chinese, so far.
FORMER LOCATION of the
blown-up 15-story Desert Inn in Las
Vegas, ,with its many wonderful show
biz memories, will probably become
the site of developer Steve Wynn's new
45-story Le Rene Hotel ... It's slated to
be a 514-foot glass tower with 2,455
MOMS.
FORMER DETROITERS Marietta
and Ernest Drucker, founders in
. Florida of the South Pinella chapter of
American Red Magen David Adorn
for Israel, were recently honored on
their fine volunteer work.
"And it's not just the emergencies,"
says Marietta. "Magen David Adorn is
Israel's national blood center. They
even sent blood to New York after the
terrorist bombings."
In the terrible Hider days, Marietta
was one of the kindertransport chil-
dren ... Jewish children sent to
England to safety as things worsened
in Nazi-occupied countries.
Ernest got out of Vienna, where
both are from, assisted by the French
Underground and came to the United
States ... He returned to fight as a sol-
dier against Hitler, and was among
those in the Normandy at the Omaha
Beach invasion.
