Edery said, "I am able to access all
kinds of different repertoire, from the
Sephardic music, to original songs, to
singing in French, to opera and orato-
rio recital work — even branching out
into flamenco."
The Litt concert at Beth Ahm will
be a different program than his Sons
of Sepharad cantors' group, Edery
added. "This will be a more intimate
kind of concert.
"I will be doing this only with one
member of my ensemble, a percus-
sionist Erin Foster, who plays the
Persian zarb, the frame drum and the
rik (a Moroccan tamborine).
"These songs are so haunting and so
profound, yet they really bring people
in because of the rhythm and the
beautiful melodies. I often go from
Ladino to Hebrew to English within
the same piece."
Edery sings on the synagogue bimah
(dais) as well. "I'm now a part-time
cantor at the [Reform] Village Temple
in Manhattan," he said. "I davened
my first complete High Holidays this
past September, which was a very, very
moving experience for me personally.
And in light of the Sept. 11 tragedies,
it was even more meaningful.
"The Yizkor service, as you can
imagine, was very moving and
painful," Edery said. "It was sad to be
in a place were so many people had
lost friends and family. No one was
untouched." 0
