erard Edery is as versatile
in his musical repertoire as
he is diverse in his back-
ground.
Winner of the 1997 Sephardic
Musical Heritage Award, the
Casablanca, Morocco-born, Paris and
New York-raised Edery is as comfort-
able performing opera as he is singing
in an upbeat
Sephardic
rhythm.
Edery
will
exhibit
both
sides of
his tal-
ent 3

p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Congregation
Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield. The
concert, sponsored by the Litt Family
Music Fund, will feature Sephardic
melodies in the first half. In the sec-
ond part, the classically trained Edery,
a low-voiced baritone, will perform
opera with Beth Ahm's cantor, tenor
David Montefiore, whose voice is
higher.
"We'll be
doing a cou-
ple of duets
together,"
said Edery.
I'm really
looking for-
ward to it.

"The Pearl
Fishers [by French
composer Bizet] has a
well-known duet
between baritone and
tenor," he said. "Most
duets are tenor-soprano —
the tenor always gets the
girl and the baritone is
crying in the wings that
he's missed his opportuni-
ty.
"There are relative-
ly few wonderful duets
for baritone and tenor.
This is one of them.
The tenor again gets
the girl, but there's a
