She came across a box that contained 2,400 photographs that had been taken away from people arriving at the camp in 1943. Wanting to learn more about the people in the pictures and their stories, Weiss spent the next decade interviewing Holocaust survivors and doing tireless research in an effort to identify the people in the photographs. Ann Weiss is the founder of the Eyes From the Ashes Educational Foundation and has served on the sec- ond-generation committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
