While visiting Auschwitz in October 1986,
Ann Weiss, a child of Holocaust survivors,
made a remarkable discovery. She came across a box that
contained 2,400 photographs that had been taken away
from people arriving at the camp in 1943. Wanting to learn
more about the people in the pictures and their stories, Weiss
spent the next decade interviewing Holocaust survivors and
doing tireless research in an effort to identify the people in the
photographs. Ann Weiss is the founder of the Eyes From the
Ashes Educational Foundation and has served on the sec-
ond-generation committee of the United States Holocaust
Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
