61 percent of Israelis still favor the cre-
ation of a Palestinian state as part of a

However, 58 percent oppose includ-
ing any area of Jerusalem as part of
that state. In addition, 60 percent of

Top Rabbi Raps
Assisted Suicide
London/JTA — Britain's chief rabbi,
Jonathan Sacks, supported a High
Court decision that a man could not
help his terminally ill wife commit sui-
cide without facing criminal charges.
"The termination of life is the sole
right of our Creator. For others to do
so is an intrusion into God's domain,"
his spokesman on medical ethics,
Rabbi Chaim Rapoport, said after the
ruling last week.
Sharpton, Rabbis
To Visit Israel
New York/JTA — The Rev. Al
Sharpton will visit Israel later this
week to "show solidarity with victims
of terrorism" and help improve black-
Jewish relations, according to a
spokeswoman for the controversial
black leader.
Sharpton is a former New York
mayoral candidate whom some Jews
view as having fanned the 1991 riots
in Crown Heights. Sharpton's first
visit to the Jewish state will be a pri-
vate trip, accompanied by rabbis Marc
Schneier and Shmuley Boteach,
among others, his spokeswoman said.
Rabbis Plan
Prayer Vigil
New York/JTA — An interdenomina-
tional group of New York-area rabbis
will hold a prayer vigil in Manhattan
on Nov. 11 "for America, against ter-
rorism" to drive home the point that
"America and Israel face a common
enemy," said an organizer, Rabbi Avi
Weiss.
Rabbi Weiss led a similar group of
rabbis, spanning the religious and
political spectrum, in a June 3 pro-
Israel solidarity rally that drew thou-
sands onto the streets of New York.
