Nosanchuk earned the
Zionist Organization of
America/Michigan
Region's highest honor
at the 68th annual
Balfour Concert Sunday
at the Millennium
Theatre Center in
Southfield.
The Farmington Hills
couple received the
Justice Louis D.
Brandeis Award in
recognition of
their community
leadership and
philanthropy.
Among their
causes are the
Israel Bonds
Prime Minister's
Club, the Jewish
Federation of
Metropolitan
Detroit Quarter
Century Club
and the Michigan
Opera Theatre.
Their Family
Community
Caring Fund underwrites the cost of pro-
grams benefiting senior citizens.
"I applaud your exemplary humanitarian
efforts to raise the consciousness of
Michigan's citizens to the evils of bigotry and
injustice, and the necessity of friendship
among people of all races, religions and cul-
tures," said Gov. John Engler in a proclama-
tion.
"Your service as community leaders, philanthro-
pists and lifelong supporters of Israel exemplify the
characteristics of Justice Louis D. Brandeis, who is
the namesake of this award," added U.S. Sen.
Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., in a U.S. Senate
proclamation.
Irving Laker, Bruce Rosen and Merton J. Segal
co-chaired the tribute committee. Rabbi Daniel
Syme of Temple Beth El, a former Brandeis Award
recipient, presented this year's honor.
Alberto Mizrahi and Freddie Roman provided
entertainment, accompanied by pianist Linda Hall
Gerson.
"ZOA continues to remind the public about
Israel's important role as America's oldest and most
reliable ally in the Middle East," said Joseph Savin,
chapter president.

Super Sunday volunteers are welcome
to bring children to the day of mitz-
vah and fund raising.
Supervised activities for children
ages 2 and up will be available Sunday,
Oct. 28, during Super
Sunday, the annual
community wide
phone appeal of the
Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's
Campaign 2002, at
both the Jewish
Community Center
in West Bloomfield
Hannan Lis
and the Max M.
Fisher Federation
Building in
Bloomfield Township.
Volunteers will par-
ticipate 9:30-11:45
a.m. and/or 11:45
a.m.-2:30 p.m. A spe-
cial Young Adult
Division shift with a
"Survivor" theme is
planned from 5:30-

Federation building.
During daytime
shifts, children can do arts and crafts,
make tzedakah cans, write letters to
victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and
enjoy a reading corner. Children's
activities will run all day. Teens volun-
teering on Super Sunday can earn
mitzvah hours for their time.

co-chairs and Scott Eisenberg is associ-
ate chairman for this year's Super
Sunday.
Mindy Soble Kaufman is Super
Sunday chair for the Women's
Campaign and Education department.
The YAD chairs are Jacquelyn Bell,
Richard Bernstein, Erin Cherkasky,
Howard Collens, Gabe Karp, Rachel
Stern and Lee Trepeck.
Nancy Grand and Douglas Bloom
are co-chairs for federation's Annual
Campaign 2002.

School, was one of
10 college freshmen

2001 March of
Dimes Youth
Leadership
Scholars.
Dan Ellman
He will receive a
$2,500 college scholarship. He has
been active with March of Dimes
for 12 years, as a Goodwill
Ambassador and a member of the
board. Ellman is studying broad
journalism
ournalism at Northwestern
University in Evanston, Ill.

Todd Horowitz, son of Dr. David
and Sharon Horowitz of West
Bloomfield, has been accepted to the
University of Illinois College of
Veterinary Medicine in Urbana. He
graduated from Andover High
school in Bloomfield Hills and
attended Michigan State
earning a degree in human biology
in 2001. Horowitz win work toward
a doctor of veterinary medicine
degree.

to a three year term as national presi-
dent of Women's
American ORT.
Linch most recently
served as first vice
president. A 40-year
member, she held
offices in the
Chicago area before
being elected to
positions at the
Caro/ Lindy
national level,
including treasurer.
She has visited ORT schools and
programs in Russia, Ukraine, Israel,
France, Morocco and
an Italy.
