Sisterhoods Choose
Their Honorees

Michigan Branch Women's League for
Conservative Judaism on behalf of
Torah Fund and the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America will hold its bien-
nial Women of Achievement luncheon
11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
Each of the sisterhoods in the
Michigan Region has selected a Woman
of Achievement to honor. They are
Shirley Norton of Beth Israel
Congregation in Ann Arbor; Alice
Buchalter of Temple Beth Israel in Bay
City; Joyce B. Weingarten of Adat
Shalom Synagogue; Judy Joseph of
Ahavas Israel in Grand Rapids; Shirley
Wise of Congregation of Moses in
Kalamazoo; Gail Tates of Beth Tephilath
Moses in Mount Clemens; Ethel
Fitzerman of Congregation Beth
Shalom. Shirley Ruzumna of
Congregation Shaarey Zedek; Elaine
Beresh of Congregation Beth Ahm;
Dolores Greenspan of Congregation
B'nai Moshe.
The annual Torah Fund campaign of
Women's League for Conservative
Judaism is a major source of support for
the Jewish Theological Seminary that
trains rabbis, cantors, teachers and other
leaders for the Conservative movement.
The guest speaker will be Rabbi
Lauren Eichler Berkun, who was recent-
ly ordained by the JTS and is serving as
Midwest fellow for the seminary.

The Temple Beth El Sisterhood will
present "Yes, Virginia, It Does
Happen to Us: Domestic Violence,
Child Abuse and Incest in the Jewish
Family" 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1.
The speaker, Amy Greenbaum, is a
rabbinic intern at Temple Beth
Sholom in Middletown, Ohio. The
program is open to the community
free of charge and will be followed by
a dessert reception. Although there is
no charge, contributions to the sister-
hood philanthropic fund to aid vic-:
tims of domestic and sexual abuse are
welcome.
