cites is lower oil prices. With

of airline industry consumption, and
oil supplies building, "they have
nowhere to go but down," he said.
Littmann also predicted that 2001
would be the third best year ever for
new automobile - sales.

ernment, Littmann assailed big gov-
ernment's interference in education,
welfare and Social Security. Calling the
latter a "Ponzi scheme," he said only
two countries in the Western
Hemisphere have not privatized their

compared to 4.1 percent a year ago.
Here's where Littmann believes the
good news begins: he sees growth in
2002 picking up to 2.7 percent. One
possible factor: a pivotal election year
will lead to funds pouring into the
economy on the federal, state and
local levels.
Addressing the issue of consumer
spending, Littmann cited statistics
showing Americans have S2 trillion
squirreled away in small savings
accounts or in money market funds
earning 1 or 2 percent, and are wait-
ing for confidence to return. Studies
show that such saved monies eventual-
ly "burn a hole" in the pockets of con-
sumers who are eager to start spending
again.
