Live in Israel

"When I heard about the Otzma program, I knew I had to
participate. Otzma's unique blend of social action, community
service, education and travel in Israel sounded like an opportunity

that could not be passed up.

"This was my first trip to Israel and I was there for ten months.
I had thought about doing a semester in Jerusalem during my junior
year of college, but that wasn't the type of Israel experience I was
looking for. I wanted to really LIVE in Israel. I wanted to actually need
to speak Hebrew and to work with the Israeli people.

The ultimate real-life experience

"One of the greatest parts of my year abroad was meeting Jews from
all over the world- like the Ethiopian Olim who would visit me
everyday. Seeing such diverse people and realizing that they're all
Jewish is an overwhelming feeling of unity. I was so impressed by
the little things that most Israelis probably take for granted. For
example: bus drivers wearing kippot, everyone saying Shabbat Shalom
on Friday, celebrating Jewish holidays as national holidays, and
struggling to read the Hebrew signs on store fronts. These everyday
events made Israel feel that much more like home to me.

"I think every Jew should visit Israel at least once in their young adult
life. It is an experience that leaves a lasting impression."
