on Sept. 11 and the anti-Semitic attacks
against Israel at the U.N. Conference on
Racism in Durban, South Africa, are
intertwined for the executive vice presi-
dent of B'nai B'rith International.
The Washington-based executive
spoke to local B'nai B'rith members
last week at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
"We're not going to get a second
chance" at this war on terrorism, he
said. "Our way of life is at stake."
Mariaschin said there is no margin
for error. "We can't lose this war ... we
really have to go where this war on
terror takes us. The only way to finish
this is to finish this."

"This [Syria] is a country where 11
major terrorist organizations are based
in its capital," he said.
After Sept. 11, B'nai B'rith
International established a fund and a
counseling center in New York to help
survivors. It is establishing a War
Service Corps to coordinate local
activities to aid the victims. ❑
