Plans Classes

Temple Israel's fall 2001 Adult Academy
includes classes and lecture series co-
sponsored with the Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan Detroit, Adat
Shalom Synagogue and the Anti-
Defamation League.
The kick-off program will be 7:30
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, featuring
George Cantor, Detroit News columnist
and author.
Monday night classes run 7-7:50
p.m. Oct. 15, 22, 29 and Nov. 5, 12,
19; S30 for temple members; S40 for
non-members. The classes are:
• "The Role of Intellect in the Search
of God" with Zohar Raviv, graduate stu-
dent in Jewish philosophy and thought
at the University of Michigan.
• "You and Your JEQ (Jewish
Emotional Quotient)" with Rabbi Hal
Greenwald, director of education, Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit.
• "Jewish Humor" with Cantor
Harold Orbach.
Second hour classes run from 8-8:50
p.m. and are:
• "Binding of Isaac — Whose Test
Was It Anyway?" with Zohar Raviv.
• "Sex in the Texts, Part 2" with
Rabbi Paul Yedwab.
• "Today in Israel" with Rabbi
Harold S. Loss.
• "The Meaning of the Mikvah" with
Rabbi Marla Hornsten.
• "Talmud for Dummies —
Introduction to Rabbinic Literature"
with Rabbi Joshua L. Bennett.
Year-round Hebrew classes, beginning
to advanced, will begin Oct. 18, as well
as a special one-day program, "Learn to
Read Hebrew in a Day."

Offers Classes

Young Israel of Oak Park has begun a
series of classes about the World Trade
Center terrorism.
The Torah will be used as guidance to
deal with the many halachic (Jewish
law), moral and ethical issues that arose
from the tragedy.
