Washington/JTA — The U.S. State
Department issued its biannual list of
foreign terrorist organizations, again
including Hamas, Hezbollah and
other groups that have perpetrated ter-
rorist attacks against Israel.
Hamas and Hezbollah were not
included on the Bush administration's
list of terrorist groups that was issued
following the Sept. 11 terror attacks
against the United States.

Tel Aviv/JTA — A 17-year-old
Palestinian who killed himself and an
Israeli man in the West Bank on
Sunday was the 100th suicide bomber
to attack Israel since 1993, according
to the Israeli daily Haaretz.
The newspaper, citing Israeli securi-
ty sources, reported Monday that 66
of the bombers were recruited by
Hamas and 34 by Islamic Jihad. The
newspaper said 77 were either high
school graduates or had a university
education, and 67 were 23 or younger.

Stepping Down

Los Angeles/JTA — Nazi-hunter
Simon Wiesenthal said he is retiring at
the age of 92 after bringing 3,000 war
criminals to justice.
"My real work, the search for crimi-
nals, is over," he told the London-
based Sunday Telegraph. "I've outlived
them all. Even if there are any I had
not looked for that are still alive, it is
too late to bring them to justice."

Poll: Mideast Policies
Fueling Terrorism

Washington/JTA — Fifty-eight per-
cent of Americans see U.S. ties to
Israel and U.S. policies toward the
Palestinians as a major motivation for
the terrorists who targeted the United
States, according to a poll conducted
by Newsweek magazine.
The figure is down from 68 percent
last month.

Nazi Guard
To Be Deported

Cleveland/JTA — A Polish immigrant
was stripped of his U.S. citizenship for
serving as a prison guard at Nazi slave
labor camps during World War II.
A U.S. judge ruled Oct. 5 that Wasyl
Krysa, 75, obtained his U.S. citizenship
in 1958 by lying about his prison camp

Tel Aviv/JTA — Tel Aviv hotels are
planning to lay off 500 employees
after Sukkot, following one of the
worst holiday seasons in Israel's tourist
history.
Hotels in Tel Aviv employ 2,500
workers, down from 5,000, according
to the Tel Aviv Hotel Association.
Some 20 hotels throughout Israel
already have closed.

Peace Now Cites
25 New Settlements

Tel Aviv/JTA — Twenty-five new set-
tlement sites were erected since Prime
Minister Ariel Sharon was elected in
February, according to a report
released by Peace Now.
Hinting at a frequent criticism of its
methodology, Peace Now said the
locations it identified from aerial sur-
veys could not be defined as expansion
of established communities. "These
built-up sites constitute new settle-
ments in every sense of the word," said
the report, which was released Oct. 4.

Actor Marries
Israeli Actress

Jerusalem/JTA — Actor Harvey Keitel
was married Sunday to Dafna Kastner-
Cohen, an Israeli actress and director,
in a Reform ceremony in Jerusalem.
Keitel was in Israel to attend the
Haifa Film Festival screening of The
Gray Zone, a movie about Jews
forced to work in the Auschwitz cre-
matoria. Keitel produced and starred
in the film.
