Scene "Great work Gittleman" IF YOU'VE DONE IT BEFORE, YOU KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. That was certainly the case with Ingrid and Michael Day, who had experience building previous homes prior to selecting Gittleman Construction to provide roughly 1,800 square feet of addition and renovation space to their 1960's Bloomfield Township residence. "We have done a lot of building," Ingrid said. " We've never had a process go as smoothly as our job with Gittleman. They said we would be out and back within six months and they were true to their word. It's now been about two years, and we've had no problems. "Gittleman really knew what they were doing and it showed. I'd recommend them to anyone." Jewish Outreach MSU awaits new campus Hillel. Morris Hillel Student Center at MSU are family members Patrice Phillips, Robert Morris and Jewell Prentis Morris. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Sept. 16 for the Lester J. Morris Hillel Student Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing. The new 10,000-square-foot facility will be constructed at 402 Linden Street, the site of the former Hillel building. The project has been financed through a capital campaign conduct- ed under the auspices of the United Jewish Foundation, the financial arm of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. More than $3 million was raised, boosted by a significant naming gift from the Prentis-Morris Family Support Foundation, a grant from the Ben N. Teitel Charitable Trust and a matching grant from the Kresge Foundation. Michigan State has more than 2,000 undergraduate students and an expanded Jewish studies program. "With the new Hillel building and the Jewish studies program, we will be providing our Jewish students at Michigan State with enriching and stimulating academic and social pro- gramming that will reinforce their pride in being Jewish," said David Bittker, chair of the MSU Hillel's fundraising campaign and a former national chairman of Hillel. The fund-raising committee members include Michael Balkin, Barbara Cook, Andrew Hayman, Cindy Hughey, Jonathon Koenigsberg, Arthur Langer, Stephen Linder and Bryce A. Sandler. Despite being housed in inadequate facilities — a 1940s-era former sorori- ty house — Hillel has provided a wel- coming place for Jewish students on MSU's campus. Executive Director Cindy Hughey said about 1,000 stu- dents visit Hillel each month for a range of social and religious activities, from mixers and lectures to partici- pating in a choral group and feeding the homeless at a local shelter. During the school year, Hillel spon- sors Reform and Conservative services and hosts Shabbat dinner for more than 100 students every Friday night. Hillel has moved to temporary offices at 112 Olds Hall on the MSU campus while its new building is under construction. The Lester J. Morris Hillel Student Center is expected to be ready for occupancy before the fall 2002 semester. For information, call Cindy Hughey at MSU Hillel, (517) 332- 1916.
