ing a war, cursing your misfortune or watching a sporting event.
In fact, some of the
most profound, or inane,
words have been said of the Almighty
throughout history. There is no other
being that has been so praised,
mocked, denied or beseeched.
Ronald B. Shwartz, a trial lawyer
and former editor at the University of
Chicago Law Review, thought the topic
would make for interesting reading.
So, he collected some of the more col-
orful comments made about God and
packaged them in a book, The Best
Things Ever Said About God (Quill; A
Harper Resource Book; $ 12).
Needless to say, Jewish writers, rab-
bis, philosophers and comedians are
quoted heavily. Here are a few of them:
