Metropolitan Detroit in West
Bloomfield, the 91 students attended a
Wednesday morning
assembly "to reflect
on the depth of the
tragedy," according to
Rabbi Lee Buckman,
head of the school.
"We recognize that,
while our first instinct
may be revenge, it
should be justice," he

told the students.
The school is turn-
ing the shivah week into a response
week, organizing a blood drive and food
collection campaign to assist the injured
and families of victims in New York.
They also are protesting gas price gaug-
ing that occurred right after the attack,
asking people to report gauging to a toll-

Adam Horowitz of West Bloomfield,
an 11 th grader at the
academy, said he cried
when he saw the
World Trade Center
towers collapse. "I
realized how fortunate
we are to be safe
here," he added.
This was just
shocking for our gen-
eration," exclaimed
Ilana Goldberg of
West Bloomfield, also
in the 1 lth grade.
"This type of thing
happens all over the
world, but it's not
supposed to happen
here."
