mid-morning thunderstorm followed by an all-day rain and tornado warnings couldn't dampen the
spirits nor diminish the enthusiasm of athletes and volunteers who participated in the 15th annual
West Bloomfield Community Fame Games at the Jeviish Community Center on Sunday.

Everyone shouted let the games begin" as the Olympic torch was lit during opening ceremonies after a pro
cession of athletes into the main lobby..A.nd it \vas let the games begin again" when everyone scurried inside
as the downpour started.
"We're always ready for anything and we have an indoor game plan in case of bad weather, said Joyce
vs
Weckstein of Southfield, who has been volunteer chairperson the entire 15 years. "Well just move inside, and
do the track and field events in the gym. Nothing is going to ruin the day. This event really showcases the ath
letic abilities of adults and children with special needs, and its very gratifying to take part."
The volunteers outnumbered the athletes, about 200 to 150, with adults comprising most of the latter-and
z they all had a ball. Morning track events were walking, running and relay races, with some people in wheel-
chairs or using .walkers. Field events included basketball hot shot, tennis ball throw soccer goal kick and an
obstacle course.
