ADL's Foxman
Slates Talk
Abraham Foxman will address the
community at 7:30 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 23, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. The discussion by the
national director of the Anti-
Defamation league will launch the
second year of joint programming
co-sponsored by Adat Shalom,
Temple Israel, the Jewish
Community Center of
Metropolitan and the Anti-
Defamation League.
Foxman's appearance in Detroit
occurs on a day
that has been
declared a national
day of Jewish soli-
darity with Israel.
He will have par-
ticipated earlier
that day with tens
of thousands of
American Jews at
the national pro-
Israel rally in New
York. He will speak
at Adat Shalom about that experi-
ence and will offer his analysis of
the current events in Israel and
the American Jewish response.
Foxman has been head of the
ADL since 1987. Born in Poland
in 1940, he was saved from the
Holocaust as an infant by his
Polish nursemaid, who baptized
and raised him as a Catholic. His
parents survived the war and
brought him to America in 1950,
following a lengthy custody battle
with the former nursemaid.
Materials for mobilizing mem-
bers of our local Jewish communi-
ty in support of Israel will be dis-
tributed during the evening at the
lecture. There is a $5 admission
charge at the door.
