T

he accent vas on both fun and
health at Temple Israel's annual
labor Day picnic.

In addition to pony rides, games, a
disc jockey and plenty of food, 110
people gave blood at the
Brotherhood-sponsored American
Red Cross blood collection drive.
Some 3,500 people of all ages attend-
ed the community-wide event.
"We are both a religious institution
and a community organization," said
David Tisdale, the temple's executive
director. "Thanks to the generous
funding from the Morris and Esther
Bittker Fund, the Temple Israel Labor
Day Picnic is the perfect event to
allow all of us to come together. We
are able to share a fun-filled, beautiful
family day as the school year begins
and we prepare for the High Holy
Days. It is one of the many ways that
Temple Israel welcomes the larger
community to our congregation." ❑
