what's new folk-art angel says, "Live well, laugh often and love much," a philosophy by which Kathy Levy lives. PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOHN SOBCZAK W hen you pull into the driveway of The Claymoor apartment building and spot designer Dan Lonski's imaginative window displays, you'll be drawn instantly into the storefront that bears the name [Rated G]. All ages are welcome at Kathy Brooks Levy's eclectic little 'treas- ure chest of a gift shop. Levy is an artist who personalizes and deco- rates stationery, notepads, pencils and pencil cases. All are imprinted in-house. [Rated G] reflects Levy's keen artist's eye. This is not a shop to browse quickly. You'll want to linger, pok- ing into the nooks and crannies, scanning all the shelves and cup- boards. Levy has filled the small, colorful space with everything from wooden flowers, handmade jewelry, collectible silver and hand- hooked rugs to wind-up tin toys, baby gifts, picture frames, lamps, bath products and ceramic vases. One of the store's more striking collections is the unusual group of embellished walking canes. "My own cane is an accessory," she says, "and I wanted others also to carry beautiful canes." A pair of comfy leather chairs and bowls of gourmet candy invite you to stay awhile in this cheerful emporium, scanning the room for that special treasure you may have missed the first time around. — Linda Bachrack Photography: Beth Singer CUSTOM CABINETRY ALLIED CABINET DESIGN .4 Via ,A* 48076' 048) 569-6000 ,4~* am,ci ita amd,o/fit 041-e/i6 30 yea/x4 STYLE AT THE JN • SEPTEMBER 2001 • 9
