eptember means "back to school," and
I've always loved this season. From the
trendy fashions to the sharpened pencils to
the crisp notebooks, everything is always
new and fresh.
This year, unlike past decades, there is a dra-
matic rise in hiring teachers. At Style at the Jewish
News, we decided to highlight some young, new
educators. We gathered them in the library at
Hillel Day School and on the grounds of the
school (above) in Farmington Hills where associate
editor Linda Bachrack and photographer Krista
Husa captured their enthusiasm.
I can relate to being a new teacher because I
taught Spanish in the Southfield Public School
system for six years. And now, many of my former
students are my friends, neighbors and business
associates. Teaching is an invigorating and reward-
ing career.
Artist Deborah Goldman's work fits well with
this season. Her sculptures highlight the beauty of
nature and much of her inspiration comes from the
vibrant fall foliage.
A treasure for all seasons is Linda Charfoos'
Yamaski-designed home. Charfoos is president
elect of the Michigan chapter of the American
Society of Interior Designers and she maintains
the integrity of this architectural gem while adapt-
ing the furnishings.
I look forward to our October issue and the fiery
colors of the fall leaves.

Sincerely,

Carla
