The U.S. and Israel walked out of the conference in protest, leaving delegates saying they wanted to work out a compromise, but unable to agree to anything that was acceptable to the unyielding Arab states. For an account of the meeting and its conse- quences in Israel and America, please see our special report "Debacle In Durban," which begins on page 18. —Jonathan Friendly, national editor The Detroit Jewish News (LISPS 275-520) is published every Friday with additional supplements in January, March, May, August, September, November and December at 27676 Franklin Road, Southfield, Michigan.
