fet includes everything on the lunch
buffet menu of over 150 items ... plus
crab legs, almond boneless chicken,
pepper jumbo shrimp and sweet and
sour shrimp.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday ... it
also includes lobster Cantonese, roast
duck, Style fish, almond boneless
chicken, pepper jumbo shrimp, sweet
and sour shrimp and crab legs.
Both the lunch and dinner variety
even has six Japanese sushi-style rolls ...
all cooked ... no raw fish ... mostly veg-
etables and shrimp ... wrapped in rice
and some in seaweed ... Onion rings ...
various fishes ... mussels ... dim sum ...
barbecue ribs ... chicken galore (wings,
General Tso's, honey, bourbon, teriyaki,
fried rice, dumplings, with broccoli,
sesame, orange, pineapple, etc.) ... and
so much more ... even pizza at dinner.
Panda Chinese buffer, owned by
Jian Zhong Chen, and managed day
and evening by personable Kai Wong,
is refreshing and most pleasant ... On-
the-ball waitpersons are at your every
beck and call ... with gracious and effi-
cient attendance.
There is no food serving, lunch or
dinner, at Panda ... Everything is either
from the buffet or a carryout menu ...
Lunch carryout specials of 28 entrees
also include fried rice and spring rolls
... Combination carryout platters
include fried rice, egg roll and soup.
The huge carryout menu items are
offered by the customary pint or quart
... However all food from the Chinese
buffet is by the pound ... Most of the
buffet items are also on the carryout
menu ... People call in and the food is
prepared and ready for pickup.
But Panda Buffet is the thing people
are talking mostly about.
Seeing the sneeze-proof all-you-can-
eat food displays ... and the clean look
... is as appetizing as the many choices.
And when eating also becomes fun,
it is an exciting adventure ... for the
many Chinese customers, too ... and
vegetarians ... who fervently enjoy the
Panda delights.
THANKS TO ... Charles Rubin ...
for the copy of Mario's Restaurant's
menu from when it opened back in
1948 ... Although the costs are far dif-
ferent, to mind comes what is going
on now at the two Mario's locations,
Detroit and Troy.
Mario's is celebrating its 53rd year
with prices from the 1970s.
In 1948, then owner Mario Lelli's
filets and sirloins were 52.50 ... Lamb
chops were S2 ... Shrimp cocktail, 75
cents ... Veal dishes all $1.50 ... But
remember, that was 53 years ago ... It
would be impossible to go back to
