Music In The Air songs for Barry Manilow and the Fifth Dimension, tapped Lindsay, a friend whose music was also performed by the Fifth Dimension. "We didn't want the music to be exclusively for the under-5 age group," says Becker, who also is Jewish. "We wanted children to grow up with our music and experience it differently at different ages. "In concerts, we see that 2- and 3- year-olds are jumping up and down, not yet connected with the lyrics. The 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds begin to pick up the humor and the subtleties." While the men play guitars, Lindsay changes from banjo to flute to oboe. arachute Express starts each performance as a family- friendly trio — but its goal is getting the audience singing the group's original songs, moving with the music and feeling like an active part of the concert. That's what will happen when Parachute Express does two programs Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Freedom Hill Amphitheater in Sterling Heights. Stephen Michael Schwartz, Donny Becker and Janice Hubbard Lindsay build on their 17 years of experience entertaining together to engage audiences and express the feelings and sensitivities of children. "We've written songs that are simple but not simplistic," says Schwartz, 48, whose father was a cantor. "We have nine albums of our music that we use to build and change our shows, and our most recent is Doctor Looneys Remedy." The latest recording, made in 1999 with multicultural music and an anthem of children's rights, has won the INDIE (Association for Independent Music) Award for Best Children's Album, NAPPA Parachute Express Gold Award from the National Association of Parenting Publications of America and the Film Advisory All three, who have entertained at the Board Award for Excellence.
