SOUTHFIELD
ELECTION FACTS

Looking east front Lawrence -
Technological University toward
Southfield's Prudential Town
Center in the Northwestern
Highway-10 Mile area.

Based on the number of candidates,
Southfield's primary election on Sept. 11
and general election Nov. 6 is one of the
most contested in Oakland County.
The September voting will narrow the
mayoral field from three to two, the
council candidates from
10 to 8 and the treasurer's
race from three (incum-
bent Roman Gronkowski
and challengers John
Reeves and Ahuva Rogers)
to two. Since there are
only two candidates in the
city clerk's race, incum-
Alan Hitsky
bent Nancy Banks and
challenger Terry Tyler will face off in
November.
We have chosen to highlight
Southfield because of its Jewish popula-
tion, its geographic placement in the
Jewish community and the large num-
ber of candidates vying for office.
Publishing this information now gives
readers ample time to become familiar
with the issues.
Presented here are articles about the
three mayoral candidates, written by for-
mer Jewish News staff writer Jennifer
Finer Lovy, and city council candidate
responses to a Jewish News questionnaire.
