bound older adults with minor indoor and
outdoor household chores: fix light bulbs,
shovel snow, drive to outpatient surgery,
minor plumbing.
• Friendly Visitors — 1 hour weekly.
Family or individual to visit with and/or
grocery shop for a homebound older
adult.
• Phone Friends Reassurance Program —
5 minutes, 3-5 times weekly. Make a
friendly call to an isolated individual to let
them know they are not alone.
• JFS Mentors — 2-4 hours, 1 day per
week. Reach out to a child who would
benefit from a special friendship with a
caring adult. Mentors offer valuable com-
panionship and support by providing one-
on-one attention and guidance.
• School Tutors — 1 hour weekly. As a
partner with the Jewish Coalition for
Literacy, JFS matches volunteers with sal-
dents at Kennedy Elementary School,
Southfield. Training will take place in
early October.
• Courtesy Drivers — 1 morning or
afternoon weekly. Drive homebound
older adults to doctor appointment to visit
someone in the hospital or other destina-
tions.
