Greenberg Award Guests Feted
Women who are previous winners of
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit's Sylvia Simon
Greenberg Leadership Award were
honored guests at a June 26 lunch-
eon at Knollwood Country Club
in West Bloomfield.
The Sylvia Simon Greenberg
Leadership Award was established
in the 1960s to recognize leader-
ship potential and service to the
Jewish community on the part of a
young woman.
Guests at the luncheon included
Tenny Greenberg and Julie
Greenberg Hazan, daughter-in-law
and granddaughter of the late
Sylvia Simon Greenberg. They
touched on the history of the
award and on their relative's lega-
cy. Other women in attendance
reminisced about the circum-
stances of receiving their
Greenberg
award: who
had called
with the news,
their accept-
ance speeches
and other
details.

DMC Honors Jewish Fund
The Jewish Fund, which helps vulnera-
ble people improve their health and lot
in life, has earned the Detroit Medical
Center's highest level of recognition.
Dr. Arthur Porter, president and chief
executive officer of the DMC, presented
Mark Schlussel, board chairman of the
Jewish Fund, with the 2001
Distinguished Benefactor Award at the
Woodward Legacy Club's fourth annual
donor recognition reception. Porter
thanked the Jewish Fund for finding 61
clinical and research programs at the
DMC since 1998. Jewish Fund support
totaled $4.6 million in grants.
The reception honors friends of the
DMC who have demonstrated an ulti-
mate commitment to philanthropy by
including a gift to the DMC member
institution in their estate plans.
In 1999, the DMC created the
Distinguished Benefactor Award to
acknowledge the importance of philan-
thropy in its overall growth and develop-
ment.
The Jewish Fund was created in 1997
from proceeds of the sale of Sinai
Hospital to the DMC.
