Wilborn.
"Wilborn was still around and
brought with him some original band
charts when he became vocalist for the
new band and cut new records of the
great old tunes like, 'I Found a New
Baby.'
"P'Jazz was only one of Chuck's
many flashes of brilliance, that also
included a major role in creation of
Fash Bash — held for several years on
the Pontch terrace — to help fund the
Founders Junior Council at the
Detroit Institute of Arts.
"He played a similar role in moving
the Detroit Chamber of Commerce
annual meeting to Mackinac Island,
from its former venue, a boat cruise
out of Miami.
"In recognition of these accomplish-
ments and others, Chuck was elevated
to president of the chamber, now
known as the Detroit Regional
Chamber.
"Chuck Muer loved fishing and
spent much of his time in St. Clair. A
chat with fishing buddies at the River
Crab bar resulted in the creation of
the River Crab Salmon Stakes.
"The event, each April, still pulls in
salmon fishing boats from many miles
around and raises money for Port
Huron's Blue Water Clinic.
"But Chuck Muer loved music even
more. He selected a young boogie and
stride pianist named Bob Seeley, to
entertain at his first Charley's Crab
restaurant on Pine Lake.
"That restaurant burned to the
ground and was never replaced, but
Bob Seeley is still burning up the keys
at Charley's Crab in Troy, in between
concerts around the country and in
Europe as a world-renown boogie and
stride man.
"For classic smooth music, so popu-
lar in the seventies, Chuck established
Top of the Pontch. The likes of Billy
Maxted, Bobby Laurel, Johnny
Guarnieri, and Mel Ball & Colours,
one of their first gigs.
"They played to a dance floor full of
Detroit glitterati, with stunning views
of Detroit, the river and Windsor
through the floor-to-ceiling glass walls
on the 25th floor.
"At cocktail time, the Top was_the
best swingles scene in Motown, with
the sunken, semi-circular bar so low
