McDonald's fast-food chain can now
order the World Wide Web to go
with their burgers and fries.
The restaurant in Ra'anana is
believed to be the first McDonald's
outlet to install computer terminals at
the tables and offer customers
Internet access for a fee.

TV Channel Set
Tel Aviv/JTA — A new Israeli satel-
lite television channel will begin
broadcasting throughout the Middle
East within four months.
The channel will include sports,
news and current events programming
six hours a day in English and Arabic,
according to Israel Radio. In addition
to reaching Israeli households, the sig-
nal will be beamed via satellite to the
Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt,
Lebanon, Syria, the Persian Gulf,
North Africa and Europe.

Jerusalem/JTA — The Israel Defense
Force is making preparations to call
up tens of thousands of reservists
abroad in the event of a major war.
According to an IDF spokesman,
recruitment branches have opened in
nine cities: Los Angeles, New York,
London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt,
Johannesburg, Bombay and Bangkok.
Vatican Urged
To Open Archives
New York/JTA — The Anti-
Defamation League urged the Vatican
to grant more access to its World War
II-era archives so scholars can learn
exactly what the Vatican knew about
the Holocaust.
Tuesday's call from the ADL came a
day after a panel of Jewish and
Catholic historians announced they
had suspended their research into the
Vatican's wartime record, saying they
couldn't proceed without access to the
documents.

Los Angeles/JTA — A modern
Orthodox congregation in Berkeley,
Calif., plans to recreate a synagogue
that once stood in Poland, but was
burned down by the Nazis.
The effort to rebuilt the synagogue
from the Polish town of Przedborz is
known as the Wooden Synagogue
Project. Wooden synagogues, num-
bering in the hundreds, were a hall-
mark of Jewish life in Eastern Europe
dating-back to the 1500s.

London/JTA — British Holocaust
denier David Irving was denied per-
mission to appeal his defeat in a libel
suit he brought last year against his-
torian Deborah Lipstadt and Penguin
Books, her publisher.
Last Friday, the Court of Appeal in
London rejected his request for an
appeal, with one of the three judges
on the panel calling Irving "one of
the most dangerous spokespersons for
Holocaust denial." Irving must quick-

past national president and chairman
of United Jewish Appeal and former
president of Lender's Bagel Bakery,
was named chairman of the pro-Israel
solidarity rally scheduled for Sept. 23.
Organizers say the rally, sponsored
