"The general manager puts a show
together entirely," she explained. "I han-
dle the budget, contract negotiations
with the actors, union negotiations, and
even marketing and advertising. The
producers are busy with the creative and
artistic parr of show, so they can't get
into these other details.
"The actors usually are great to work_
with. Jackie Mason was wonderful and
very pleasant. He had nicknames for
everyone -- was The girl with the hus-
band."'
Kraft chose her involvement in
Madame X over a summer job as an
entertainer at the Cedar Point amuse-
ment park. The daughter of Larry and
Jackie Kraft of West Bloomfield, she is a
12-year veteran of Miss Barbara's Dance
Centre.
She danced and sang "Somewhere" in
West Side Story at Orchard Lake Middle
School, and played Kim in Bye Bye
Birdie and Golde in Fiddler on the Roof
at West Bloomfield High School. She
had a bat mitzvah at Temple Beth El
and is the niece of its rabbi, Daniel
Syme.
After aiaduatinc, from high school in
1998, she spent two years as a music
major at Michigan State University,
where she starred in You're a Good Man,
Charlie Brown. She then transferred to
the University of Michigan and now is
in the musical theater department of the
school of music.
"I realized I just had to do musicals,-
and I'm continuing my education in
that area," she said. "I'm very serious
about a career in show business. A friend
told me about Madame X, and I audi-
tioned and got the part."
As Helene, the fiancee of Raymond,
Kraft sings and dances in four ensemble
numbers. She will play the role of Marie
at the 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, perform-
ance, and sing a solo, "The First Time
You Fall in Love."
"I would have had a lot of fun at
Cedar Point," she said, "but I know
I made the right choice with
Madame X." ❑
