cashews ($11.95) ... and the charbroiled

McVee's chopped sirloin is just that ...
chopped sirloin ... smothered with
grilled onions and mushrooms ... And
there's nothing better than the confi-
dence of having beloved meat loaf
homemade on the premises ... Getting it
homemade is a big treat.
The cooking and refrigeration areas in
the kitchen are completely new ... with
renovation being done the first part of
this year ... New stoves, new convection
oven, new fryer, new saute burner, new
charbroiler, etc. ... all replacing the over
15-year-old relics ... So much easier to
prepare the food now ... and a big rea-
son why it comes out even tastier than
before.
McVee's is open Monday-Saturday, 11
a.m.-2 a.m. ... with the kitchen hours
until midnight daily ... Sundays the
restaurant is closed ... but available for
private parties.
It is big on fresh fish ... Whitefish is
sauteed in garlic butter with capers and
dry vermouth ($11.95); charbroiled
Norwegian salmon ($13.95); lake perch
($13.95) ... Not on the menu but avail-
able on specials are sauteed rainbow
trout almandine, ahi tuna, yellow fin
tuna, swordfish, red snapper, etc.
Braised short ribs are served Tuesdays,
lunch and dinner ... lamb shank,
Wednesday lunch and dinner ... Surf &
turf (8 oz. cold water lobster rail and 6
oz. filet) Friday and Saturday.
The 12 appetizers at McVee's are out-
standing ... Hand breaded calamari with
capers in a lemon butter sauce are excel-
lently prepared ... as are the cheese que-
sadillas.
Dinner entrees are served with cup of
soup or tossed salad, vegetable, choice of
potato and breadbasket.
And if you or someone in the group
isn't too hungry, there are also at least five
salads and six or more sandwiches on the
dinner menu ... Caesar salad ($6.95);
Michigan chicken salad (grilled chicken,
sundried cherries, Granny Smith apples,
red onion, cherry tomatoes, chopped
pecans, fresh greens tossed in a raspberry
vinaigrette, $10.95); 8 oz. ribeye sand-
wich with fries ($9.95); French dip with
fries ($6.95); 1/2 lb. burger with fries
($5.95); tuna or chicken ($5.25).
There's even a good wine list ... with a
separate vino menu ... Also entertain-
ment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
