B ANK ONE

died in October 2000. Construction
begins this fall on the Lester J.
Morris Hillel Student Center, which
will provide an updated new facility
to serve the more than 2,000 Jewish
undergraduates enrolled on the East
Lansing campus. The $3 million
capital campaign at MSU includes
$1.8 million for construction costs
and $1.2 million for supporting the
new building and programming.
The Prentis-Morris Foundation
also confirmed the previously
announced gift to Fresh Air Society
to construct the new Lester and
Jewell Morris and Beverly Prentis
Wagner Medical Facility at Camp
Maas in Ortonville.
The late Lester Morris, a New
Jersey native, was noted for his phil-
anthropy and service to the Detroit
Jewish community. Very active with
Federation, he also served on the
boards of numerous non-profit
organizations, including Jewish
Home and Aging Services, Jewish
Apartments and Services, Sinai
Hospital of Detroit, Michigan
Cancer Foundation and Temple
Beth El. He owned the Morris
Buick dealership at Seven Mile
Road and James Couzens in Detroit
for nearly four decades.
Jewell Morris, who is now presi-
dent of the Prentis-Morris
Foundation, is the daughter of
General Motors Treasurer Meyer L.
Prentis and his wife, Anna. The
Morrises were married 54 years.
Their children are Patrice (Dr. Eric)
Phillips, the foundation's vice presi-
dent; Robert Prentis Morris and the
late Jimmy Prentis Morris, who died
at age 13. Granddaughters are
Jennifer and Rachel Phillips.
Beverly Prentis Wagner of
Bloomfield Hills, a trustee of the
Prentis-Morris Foundation and
Jewell Morris' sister, was a docent
for many years at the Detroit
Institute of Arts. She has been
involved in civic and charitable
activities in Detroit and Palm
Beach, Pia.
The night before Lester Morris'
untimely death last October, daugh-
ter Patti Phillips of West Bloomfield
said he told the family that his mis-
sion this year was to refurbish the
JPM Center's social hall. Her father
especially loved attending the annu-
al "Apples and Honey" family event
there, but could see that more space
was needed for the performers.

Paramount customers not only enjoy free checking, but they also collect a consis-
tently higher rate of interest on their checking balances than any other bank
in southeastern Michigan.
