Bonn/JTA — Oskar Schindler's
widow reiterated that a suitcase full of
the Righteous Gentile's documents,
including a list of some 1,200 Jewish

from Israel to Germany.

from Germany to Argentina after
World War II, made her comments at

Court ordered Shas Party legislator

performed seven years ago.

the court increased the damages he
must pay from the original sum of
about $75,000.
House Demolition
Prompts Anger
Washington/JTA — Israel's demolition
of some 26 homes in the Gaza Strip
drew condemnation from the United
States and European Union.
The U.S. State Department called
such operations "provocative." Israel
said it destroyed the houses on
Tuesday to deny cover to Palestinian
gunmen who were attacking Israeli
troops in southern Gaza near the bor-
der with Egypt.

Syrian President Bashar Assad to

"It is very important that Syria will
have a constructive role" in helping
ease tensions in the Middle East,
German Foreign Minister Joschka
Fischer said after meeting with Assad
in Berlin on Wednesday, the second
and final day of the Syrian leader's
visit there.

Owner Dies At 90
New York/JTA — Leonard Pines, the
longtime owner of Hebrew National
Kosher Foods, perhaps the most well-
known kosher food company in the

the age of 90. Pines developed the

Paper Clip Principal
Goes To Israel
New York /JTA — The Tennessee
school principal whose students col-
lected a paper clip for each of the 6
million Jews killed in the Holocaust is
visiting Israel for a series of lectures
about the Holocaust.
Over the last three years, Linda •
Hooper's students have exceeded their
goal, collecting 21 million paper clips.
The clips were chosen because
Norwegians wore them during World
War II as a protest against the Nazis.

Wagner Performance
Draws Mixed Reviews
Jerusalem/JTA — Jerusalem Mayor
Ehud Olmert said the city will have to
reconsider its future relations with
conductor Daniel Barenboim after he
conducted a surprise performance of a
piece by Hitler's favorite composer at
the Israel Festival.
At the end of Saturday's concert,
Barenboim told the audience he would
conduct a piece from Richard
Wagner's opera "Tristan and Isolde"
and said those who objected should -
leave. Some members of the audience
protested and walked out, but the
majority cheered. Barenboim had
agreed beforehand to observe the
informal ban in Israel on Wagner.

where he plotted his assault on
Europe, will become a luxury hotel,

forces from the mountain getaway and
planned the destruction of the Jews.
