your wondering eyes ... It was an
absorbing spectacle and, incidentally,
some of the most render fillets you
could imagine ... In another area was
Cantonese and American fare.
INSTEAD OF potato chips and
cocktails ... cheese and protein drinks
were served at Healthy Jones on
Northwestern Higthway in Southfield
... The "bartender" concocted mix-
tures made with strawberries and
bananas, and garnished them with
fresh mint leaves ... The staff exuded
health ... perhaps it was from the
symbolic green (growth) and brown
(earth) colors ... Or, it could have
been from the health food store on
the premise ... Today's locale is Sc'ro's.
IN A FEATURE unique to Arabic
restaurants, the Gn o me on Woodward
in Highland Park, presented classical
music and mellow jazz in a casual
Irish atmosphere nightly ... Gnomes
were everywhere ... in the windows,
on the menus and even on plaques on
the walls ... People could read every-
thing they ever wanted to know about
them.
LOCATED IN A quaint, cozy cor-
ner of Ecorse, you could almost miss
the Little Red Winery except for the
aromas that wafted through the petu-
nia path in front, which led you to a
rendezvous with contentment ...
Friendly faces and an atmosphere of
"Old Country charm" blended with
the single guitarist in making one feel
right at home ... Its chateaubriand
and quail for two, or chicken Vienna
with sour cream dumplings, would
delightfully tease your palate.
ON ORCHARD LAKE Roaa in
West Bloomfield,

designed by Ann Arbor's own Alexis
Lehti, engaged the eye with a clean,
beautifully \Tarnished knotty pine
decor .... Guests could choose to dine
downstairs, or they could ascend the
staircase to the upstairs dining area
with a view of the entire restaurant ...
Its searing capacity was moderate ar d
the menu featured fresh daily seafood,
extensive appetizers and entrees ... It
is today the still-empty locale of the
former Jake's on the Lake.
KORN KORNER ... Usually
apologies are due for actually printing
the korn that appears here ... But last
week, due to a press error, the punch
line to Lillian Zellman's korntribution
was omitted ... Here it is ... with
apologies ...
