Garden Of Support

Lloyd Way of Bloomfield Hills, Nate Garfinkel and Helen Eustice, both of West
Bloomfield, Robert Irons of Willed Lake and recreational therapist Jennifer
Zupancic take advantage of a lovely spring day and a therapeutic gardening
program at the Dorothy and Peter Brown Jewish Community Adult Day Care
Program. Led by master gardener Colleen Hogan Schmidt of Clarkston, the
May 31program for elderly individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other
forms of dementia, included planting flowers and herbs outside the West
Bloomfield facility. The activities are part of a program established to help indi-
viduals with memory impairments retain physical stamina, socialize with others
and develop feelings of accomplishment. It is operated by Jewish Home and
Aging Services and Jewish Vocational Service, a United Way and Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit agency. Funding for the garden was provid-
ed by the Area Agency on Aging, Region 1-B.
