court upheld a lower court's ruling
that secular courts cannot become
involved in rabbinical judiciardeci-
sions. Saying the Constitution for-
bids secular courts from interfering
with the doctrines and practices of a
religion, the court ruled this week
regarding a decision by a rabbinical
court in Monsey, N.Y., to force a

Court: Y.U. May Be
Violating Law

New York/JTA — Yeshiva University's
policy of barring gay couples from its
married student housing may violate
New York City anti-discrimination
statutes, New York state's highest court
ruled Monday.
The Court of Appeals ruled that a
lesbian couple should be allowed to
sue Yeshiva University's medical school
for bias based on sexual orientation.
The decision overturned two lower
court rulings, which found that the
college's policy was not discriminatory
