Presidents of Major American Jewish
Organizations.
In a related development, more than
250 American Jewish organizations
signed a full-page ad in the New York
Times, saying they are "going to Israel
this summer." .
The ad aims to show solidarity with
Israel, which has suffered a huge drop in
tourism as a result of the ongoing vio-
lence. The Reform movement's Union
of American Hebrew Congregations,
which canceled its youth trips this sum-
mer, signed on to the ad because its
other summer programs are continuing.

Women Soldiers
May Wear Tefillin

Jerusalern/JTA — Israel granted
female soldiers the right to pray wear-
ing tefillin.
The directive comes several months
after several female soldiers from the
Conservative movement were prevented
by an army base rabbi from doing so, on
the grounds it offended other soldiers.

ADL Launches
Anti-Hate Site

New York/JTA — The Anti-
Defamation League announced a new
initiative to help law enforcement offi-
cials in the battle against extremists
and hate groups.
As part of the initiative, ADL officials
unveiled a new Web page the group
called a site for "one-stop shopping for
current and archival information,
trends, analysis and programs." Located
at adLorg/learn, the site includes a
who's who guide to the hate world, a
state-by-state calendar of upcoming
extremist events and a chronology of
extremist-related criminal activity.

First Woman
Gets IDF Wings

Jerusalem/JTA — Seven years after
Israel's Supreme Court ordered the
Israel Defense Force to open its pilots'
training course to women, a female
cadet is about to get her wings.
Since the court ruling, several
women have successfully completed
the course to become air navigators,
but a woman identified only as Roni
will soon become the first female air
force combat pilot.
