SIMON KLACHEFSKY, 80 former
Detroiter of Plantation, Fla., died June
3. He was a Holocaust survivor.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years,
Natalie Klachefsky; son and
daughter-in-law, Michael
and Elizabeth Klachefsky of
Winnipeg, Canada; daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Linda

ANNA LENGEL, 86, of Detroit, died
June 12.After coming to America in
1949, Mrs. Lengel went to
night school to learn
English. After the death of
her husband, she went on
to college, becoming a
medical office assistant. For
years, she was an ophthal-
mology assistant.
A Holocaust survivor, Mrs. Lengel
remained active in Holocaust Memorial
matters. Her Holocaust experiences were
chronicled by the
Steven Spielberg
Foundation and she
was given the honor of
lighting memorial can-
dles during programs at
the Workmen's Circle,
Shaarit Haplaytah and
Holocaust Memorial
Anna Lengel
Center. She also helped
a Hillel student write a
project on the Holocaust. Through her
contacts with Sinai Hospital, an ongoing,
program of counseling of Holocaust sur-
vivors and remembrance called Cafe
Europa was established. Mrs. Lengel was
a classic "great cook" who created cakes
and main dishes, always kosher, and
rarely needing measuring utensils or
recipes.
Mrs. Lengel is survived by her son,
David Lengel of Detroit; daughters and
sons-in-law, Sherrill Avrahami (Eli) of
Oak Park, Freda (Michael) of
Bloomfield Hills, Daniel Arlow and
Benjamin Avrahami; sister, Lucia
Zaczkiewicz of Tarnow, Poland; brother-
in-law and sister-in-law, Herman and
Miriam Lengel of West Bloomfield.
Contributions may be made to a
Yeshiva for underprivileged boys in

Jerusalem, with headquarters in
Brooklyn: Ezrat Yisroel, 1055 56th
Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11219. Interment
at Workmen's Circle Cemetery.

HILDA MAX, 87, of Oak Park, died
June 11.
She is survived by her daughter and
son-in-law, Sharon and Carmi Slomovitz
of Florida; sister, Irene Greenwald of
Oak Park; grandchild, Randy Slomovitz.
Mrs. Max was the beloved wife of the
late George Max.
Contributions may be made to a
charity of one's choice. Interment at
Beth Tefilo Emanuel Cemetery

JEROME B. "JERRY" MILAN, 56,
former Detroiter of Claremore, Okla.,
died May 23. He was a graduate of
Mumford High School. After leaving
Detroit he pursued interests in aviation
and the culinary arts. He received his
pilot's license with a commercial and
instrument rating.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law,
Alyson and Jon Garrison of Claremore;
mother, Jean; sister, Linda and friend
Steve Zweiback of Los Angeles. He was
the loving son of the late Max Milan.
Services were held in Claremore.

DR. SEYMOUR NEWMAN, 78, of
West Bloomfield, died June 16. He
retired from the Ford
Motor Company as
senior staff engineer
and manager in 1986.
He had distinguished
himself in a long
career devoted to the
plastics industry, prin-
cipally in basic
Seymour
research. His work has Newman
influenced widely
diverse areas, some of
which have led directly to commercial
innovations. He was widely recognized
for his developments in composite mate-
rials and for his development of structur-
al fiber reinforced plastic components
and their associated manufacturing
processes for automotive use.
Dr. Newman served in World War II
as a medic in the northern Pacific area.
As a research fellow at Cornell University
in the '50s, Dr. Newman worked with
Nobel Prize winner in chemistry Dr.
Paul Flory, with whom he co-authored
four scientific papers. In addition to
important contributions to the industry,
as evidenced by over 65 published
