Locally, some of that work includes
designing the Lubavitch Foundation
of Michigan's Synagogue Campus of
Living Judaism in West Bloomfield;
ground will be broken this summer.
Other examples include
Birmingham's Munder Financial
Building, the first cluster housing
development in Birmingham, and the
soon-to-be residential/retail facility
250 Martin Street.
Through its other principal, Carl
Luckenbach, the firm is responsible
for design work on the Pontiac
Silverdome.
The pairing of Luckenbach and
Ziegelman began well before the two
formed a partnership in 1980. "We
both opened our own firms at the
same time (1962) and even rented
space in the same house in
Birmingham," Ziegelman said.
Their combined client list includes
General Motors, the University of
Michigan, Wayne State University,
Handleman Company, Kellogg
Foundation and American Axle and
Manufacturing.
The AIA previously honored
Ziegelman for pioneering the concept of
prefabricated building panels and modu-
lar components in construction projects
and Luckenbach for pioneering the con-
cept of cluster housing in the 1960s.
