Maya Ergas Shwayder will become a bat mitzvah on Friday, June 15, at Temple Kol Ami. Celebrating her achievement will be her parents, Aimee Ergas and Tor Shwayder, and her brothers Ari and Kobey. Maya is the granddaughter of Joann and Charles Clayman, the late Warren Shwayder, Ralph Ergas and the late Marge Ergas. Maya is an honor student at East Middle School in Farmington Hills. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the Mosaic Club, which pro- motes kindness in the school corn- munity. She is a cellist in the Detroit "Symphony Orchestra Civic Sinfonia and studies dance and theater. Her mitzvah projects included helping with Temple Kol Ami's Housing the Homeless project, delivering meals for the National Council of Jewish Women's Meals on Wheels program and sorting and marking bedding and medical supplies for the Gujarat, India, Earthquake Relief Project. Meryl Ashley Sklar will celebrate her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel on Friday, June 15. She is the daughter of Wendy and Dr. Sandy Sklar and sister of Justin. Excited grandparents are Libby and Leo Sklar. She is also the grandchild of the late Fay and Lawrence Leonard. Attending Abbott Middle School in West Bloomfield, Meryl likes tennis, golf, swimming and singing.
